If you walk into a boardroom pregnant, but you still own that boardroom and presentation and rock it like YOU - then YOU is what shines through. If you walk into the boardroom timid and shy, thinking that they will be completely biased against you - that's your own fault.
I see the same FB baby pictures and when I feel anxious about them I know it means that I'm not ready.
When you are ready to live that lifestyle - you will figure out how to make it work for you. That's why there is a group of people out there (including me) advocating for work/life flexibility so we can all choose how we want our lives and work to fit together.

Re: Women, Family, Personal Brand – Is it possible to have it all?

Having it all means different things to different people. For some Moms, having it all is raising their children, being present 100% of the time. For others, it's continuing to have a life outside the home - professional or social. What matters is setting YOUR priorities, and finding what will work for you. I say this with experience - I'm a Mom, I've worked outside the home, and I now run my own business. Having a career is important to me - but so is my family, very much so. I recently wrote a very personal post on my blog - it talks about the tragedy our family experienced last year when we lost our baby boy at 10 weeks old .. and how it has shaped and changed my outlook, and career path. I would love for you to read it.

http://strategicexecutiveconne...

Re: Women, Family, Personal Brand – Is it possible to have it all?

Having it 'all' depends on constraining what you think 'all' is. We're only human.
Just assuming that you were meeting all your children's needs and wants, all your bosses' needs and wants, maintaining your relationships and your health and fitness... that's a full list already, probably what most people call 'all.'
But why not learn guitar, too? And Urdu? Get a law degree online. Volunteer on non-profit boards. Start a company from home. Consult. The list is potentially endless. I submit that 'all' -- really 'ALL'-- is not do-able.
That leads us back to old-fashioned common sense. Prioritize. Compromise. Do the best you can, and be proud of yourself for doing it. Don't torture yourself by making the list longer that what you can actually do.

Re: Ignore the Talking Heads (Connecting with People who Want to Listen)

I love your post, Clara. There wasn't enough changes. However, I think Steve is right when he's getting out of the spec wars. It's about user experience and in my opinion, Apple is second to none. Sure, there's no true multitasking, no hardcore tweaks and hacks, but it simply works. It is thought of as an internet medium, but less so as a social networking tool. It often gets missed or glossed over when thinking of how to reach people effectively. Coca Cola did an awesome job with their YouTube campaign, by the way. They placed a vending machine on a college campus, which surprised a lot of students when it spouted out stuff like hot pizza! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Re: Twitter isn’t that different from Facebook

Hi Clara,

From my observations, I would say that Twitter and Facebook are the primary one-two punch at this point when it comes to any brand's social networking strategy and presence. For example, if you watch the Today Show on NBC, or any other similar program, you will see that they have both Twitter and Facebook symbols appearing at the bottom of the screen, reminding viewers to check in with them via these channels. I think YouTube is now very much part of this, as well, which makes sense as it is the second highest volume search engine after Google on the Internet. So, yes, it is clear that a well-rounded program using these three primary tools, along with a few others (say Tumblr), is going to deliver the best benefit.
Cheers!

Peter

Re: eReaders and Tablets give Apple a run for its money

Companies typically see themselves in the wrong line of work. Starbucks is the trend spotter and yes they are riding the marketing campaign of being green. However, who said this is going to be successful. Business profitability has nothing to do with being green! Often times they are the complete opposite.

I think people often have much to criticize and complain about things corporations don't do well. How about let's start with ourselves first? What have we done to change the world and the environment?

Corporation are built by people who runs them. I'm sure everyone who works at Starbucks are trying their best just like we do in our daily lives.

Re: Is Starbucks Really Green or Just Greenwashing (Free Coffee and BYOMug on April 15th!)

Comment from Facebook: I wish other companies can do 1/2 or 1/4 what Starbucks does. Let's talk about Apple Inc. They donated $0 money to Hatti while Starbucks donated millions! At least Starbucks is doing something. Offering good business practices by being green and taking care of it's employees. Yes, I think they are working on marketing the image of the company. Which is important because people will only support companies that inline with their personal values.
